Having never read Robin Parrish before and having the chance to do so through Bethany House book reviewer program (I was provided a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishing in exchange for my honest review) let me delve into a genre I normally wouldn't have gone near. I was hooked on this book from the time I first picked it up until I finished it two days later.
We begin offworld with four astronauts from NASA who are on the first manned mission to Mars in the year 2032 as they are begining their trip home. What they don't know is they are in for a big surprise when the finally do get back to Earth - no one is there to welcome them! With surprising twists and turns Mr. Parrish really does a great job in weaving a story of suspense, science fictions and drama. While there isn't a whole lot of talk about God or even having faith in Him - one could see the allegory that could be made from reading this book. There is the word c**p used once, which I really could have done without but the character who used it also wasn't a Christian but as a Christian reading the word it did offend me.
Overall, despite the use of the above word and lack of the characters having a solid faith in God it was a good read if only for entertainment rather than inspirational value. So while I can't say I would whole heartedly recommend this to my Christian friends, because I know they too would be offended by that word (I consider it a curse word - again my opinion) I also know it was a good and thrilling read that takes the reader into another world - which I enjoyed being able to be 'transported' to.
